La Chablisienne is a cooperative of farmers established in 1923 under the leadership of Abbé Balitrand, who encouraged a number of top-notch Chablis winegrowers to join forces in order to better withstand the economic difficulties of the period. 300 farmers belong to La Chablisienne and they get advice and help from the winemakers and enologists from the cooperative so that they can grow the highest quality grapes. “It is important to work together,” says Hervé Tucki, the veritable ambassador of La Chablisienne. “Our vision of Chablis”, Hervé continues, “is classical; we want our wines to show the minerality. We do not vinify a Chardonnay wine, we vinify a Chablis. Chardonnay is everywhere, Chablis is only here"!*
Today's wine is sourced from the climat** of Côte de Léchet, a 51-hectare 1er cru site on the left bank of the Serein River with vines that average 25 years in age. It has steep slopes with a southwest exposure that drenches the vines in sunshine as well as that Kimmeridgian soil that sets Chablis apart from other white Burgundies. Côte de Léchet wines deftly balance ripe fruit characters with terroir-driven minerality.
Aged for 12 months sur-lie*** in a combination of stainless steel and oak barrels, the 2016 La Chablisienne 1er Cru Côte de Léchet has aromas of white flowers, citrus and stone fruits, and hints of vanilla. On the medium-bodied palate, flavors of lemon and lime zest intermingle with notes of apples, pears, peaches, honeysuckle, and flinty minerality that unfold on the palate layer by glorious layer. Bright acidity brings the wine to a long and very satisfying finish.

**A climat in Burgundy is a small parcel of land with delimited boundaries that is distinct in terms of its terroir.
***Lees-aging or "sur-lie" aging refers to the process of aging a wine while it remains in contact with the lees, or dead yeast cells that are a product of fermentation. This results in wines with more depth, body, and complexity.
