The Petit Chablis appellation was created in 1944 for dry white wines made from Chardonnay in Chablis and the surrounding communes. Petit Chablis as a wine zone covers vineyards not included in the standard areas of Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru, and Chablis Grand Cru titles as its' Portlandian (mostly clay with some limestone) subsoil differs somewhat from other AOCs in the region.
However, it still evokes Chablis characteristics with lovely freshness on the palate. Petit Chablis is a perfect introduction to the appellation of Chablis and a great value for wines from Burgundy.
Today's wine is clean and crisp yet full and round, with aromas and flavors of lemon and lime zest intermingled with green apple and wet stone. The fleshy palate is balanced by vibrant acidity that brings the wine to a long finish.
