Marietta Cellars is a second-generation, family-owned winery with vineyards in Sonoma and Mendocino counties. Current owner and winemaker Scott Bilbro caught the winemaking bug from his father, who cut his teeth making wine purchased from local grape growers and acquired vineyard sites as he expanded his expertise and knowledge of the region's terroir. Armed with an enology degree from UC Davis, Scott spent years honing his craft alongside his father and was ready to take over upon his retirement ten years ago. Today, Scott makes bold, expressive wines that reflect his land, the climate, and the Marietta house style.
Today's wine is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 4% Malbec, and 2% Petit Verdot from Scott's vineyards in Sonoma's Alexander Valley and Mendocino's McDowell Valley. Aged for 20 months in neutral oak barrels, it is "an exemplary California Cabernet aromatic experience filled with minty herbs and lavender. Blackberries, bright cherries, and plums, with hints of leather and tobacco all intertwine for a wonderfully balanced mouthfeel. This wine is sumptuous yet racy, polished yet spirited, delicious and gratifying- an iconic result in the glass." (winery tasting notes)
93 Points, Vinous:
"The 2017 Armé is another gorgeous wine in this range from Marietta. Inky dark blue and purplish fruit, lavender, menthol and spice all grace this sumptuous racy and inky wine with great balance. The 2017 is a super value in California Cabernet Sauvignon. Wow." (4/20)
