The Mastroberardino family is largely responsible for putting Campania on the modern world wine stage as well as preserving the region's culture by identifying its oldest grape varietals through DNA testing. It is no wonder that this dedicated and passionate family crafts wines that are benchmarks for the region's other wine producers. Established in the late 19th century, the winery has been instrumental in bringing native varietals like Fiano to the attention of wine lovers all over the world. Named "Radici", meaning "roots", today's wine is a unique expression of Campania terroir.
Today's wine is crafted from 100% Fiano from Mastroberardino's Santo Stefano del Sole vineyard, which is situated about 1800 feet above sea level, has a southeastern exposure, and has sandy-loam soils. These conditions of terroir work beautifully with this grape, bringing forth richly-textured wines with generous fruit characters, secondary notes of honey and hazelnut, and balancing acidity.
93 Points, Vinous:
“Pale straw-green. Clean, piercing aromas of green apple, white peach, and minerals, complicated by a hint of diesel fuel. Brightly dense and juicy, with a laser beam of harmonious acidity providing clarity and cut to the enticing flavors of green apple, nectarine, and pear. Finishes long, with a dusting of chalk and talcum powder. One of the better Radici wines in years, this is a real knockout. The high-altitude vineyards obviously weathered the heat of 2017 very well.” (11/18)
90 Points, Wine Spectator:
"A refreshing, clean-cut white, with hints of chalk and saline creating a tangy underpinning to the flavors of Asian pear, kiwifruit, Marcona almond, and lime blossom. Light- to medium-bodied, with a lingering finish. Drink now through 2022." (4/30/19)
90 Points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"White spring flower, acacia, and tropical fruit aromas lift out of the glass. On the smooth, rounded palate, tangy acidity and a mineral vein energize ripe yellow apple, juicy pear and a drop of honey. A hint of toasted almond signals the close." (12/1/18)
