Matua winery is the first winery in New Zealand to produce the ripe, fruit-driven Sauvignon Blancs that we enjoy today. Pioneers Bill and Ross Spence came from a multi-generational winemaking family and wanted to continue the legacy by putting New Zealand on the international wine stage. After studying enology at university, the brothers purchased land and started experimenting with grape varietals. Very early on, they knew that magic could be made with Sauvignon Blanc, and they laid the groundwork for what is now New Zealand's iconic wine. It is no wonder that their flagship Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has such a large international following and receives so many accolades from the press.
Today's wine is a vibrant and zesty expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Bright citrus fruit aromas lead to a palate redolent with lemon peel, nectarine, and pink grapefruit along with accents of guava and passion fruit. Bright acidity carries these flavors to a long and satisfying finish.
90 points, #40 Top-100, Wine Spectator:
Succulent, fleshy peach and nectarine flavors are accented by Key lime, mango, and ruby grapefruit notes. Shows nice intensity on the long, expressive finish." (11/15/17)
