Murrieta’s Well is one of California’s original wine estates and has been growing grapes since the 1800s. Its vineyard was started with cuttings from the famed Château d’Yquem and Château Margaux vineyards in France; today it continues to produce the highest quality fruit. Grape varieties are planted according to the various microclimates on the property. This creates the winemaking palette for blending exceptional wines that truly showcase the unique characteristics of the estate’s terroir. (winery notes)
"The Spur" is predominantly cabernet sauvignon blended with petite sirah, merlot, and petit verdot sourced exclusively from vineyards on the Murrieta's Well estate in the Livermore Valley. All the varietals in this wine were fermented individually in stainless steel tanks; the fermented juices were blended and aged for 18 months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels.
"The Spur" is an homage to Bordeaux with a distinctly California expression, thanks in large part to the edition of petite sirah. Full-bodied, it offers aromas of black cherries, blackberries, cranberries, vanilla, toast, and baking spices that follow on the palate, unfolding layer by glorious layer. Fine-grained tannins bring the wine to a long finish and lend structure without detracting from its silky texture.
