PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Nicolas Maillart is a boutique Champagne house located in the village of Ecueil in the Montagne de Reims zone. The family has had vineyards in both Premier and Grand Cru villages of the Montagne de Reims since 1753.

It is now the turn of the ninth generation to take the reins in the form of Nicolas, who returned to Champagne in 2003 after completing his studies in engineering and enology. He is perpetuating an almost three-hundred-year-old tradition and maintains the house philosophy of bringing out the full potential of the terroir of Champagne in the wines. Champagne Maillart sources fruit from vines in the 1er cru village of Villers Allerand, 1er cru Ecueil, and the famous Grand Cru village of Bouzy.*

In keeping with the Montagne de Reims region’s typicity, their vineyards contain a high proportion of Pinot Noir vines together with Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay, with the predominance of the red fruit varietals - especially Pinot Noir - providing power and substance to complement the finesse of the Chardonnay.*

Vinification and maturing are done by employing low, gentle pressing using gravity-flow techniques, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and for a period in the barrel for a portion of the reserve wines. The wine spends an average of two years in the bottle. Disgorgement is done by hand and the wine is laid down for at least three months before sale.

Golden in color with a fine mousse, it has intense aromas and flavors of orchard fruits, hazelnuts, and brioche. The palate is wonderfully fresh and vinous, followed by great finesse.*

92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"Offering up aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruits, beeswax, almond paste, and white flowers, it's medium to full-bodied, vinous, and concentrated, with lovely depth at the core, brisk acids, and a long, sapid finish." (9/17/20)
