PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
The most talented winemakers are usually the most humble; they attribute the bulk of their success to the land that produces their fruit. Such is the case with renowned sangiovese aficionado Carlo Ferrini. Consulting winemaker to many of Tuscany's finest estates for over 30 years as well as proprietor of Podere Giodo, Carlo's guiding principle is that great wines are made in the vineyards. While we heartily agree on the importance of terroir, we must also acknowledge Ferrini's breadth of knowledge, hard work, and ability to coax the very, very best from his raw materials. Wines with his touch are simply stunning.

After cutting his teeth working for the Consorzio of Chianti Classico, Carlo began to act as consulting agronomist for some of the most famous estates in Tuscany: Barone Ricasoli, Poliziano, Mazzei, Brancaia, Petrolo, and Casanova di Neri, to name a few. He ranks as one of the greatest winemakers in Italy, if not the world.

According to the regulations of the Consorzio for Brunello di Montalcino, Podere Giodo is only allowed to bottle 250 cases of Brunello di Montalcino; anything else over and above has to be declassified and bottled as Toscana Rosso IGT. Both Ferrini's Brunellos and his IGT wines have received multiple high ratings from the press, and today's offer ranks among his very best Toscano Rossos. Check out the press!

95 points, James Suckling:
"Lots of earth, meat, and spice with cherries and spices. Bark and mushrooms, too. Medium-to-full-bodied, deep, and dense, but not heavy, with lots of forest fruit at the end. Rather unique. This sangiovese was made first in stainless and then in half amphora and half wood for 12 months. Drink or hold." (6/17/22)

92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The Giodo 2020 La Quinta is all sangiovese (with fruit from younger vines) from a vintage that will be remembered for sunshine and heat. This wine shows the power you can expect with bold fruit tones of candied cherry and baked raspberry. The primary intensity of the wine is bold and decisive, making this wine a great choice for a cheesy food favorite, whether that be lasagna or baked brie. The finish is smooth and tight. This is a 10,000-bottle release." (2/17/22)
