The Dão is located in north-central Portugal and is one of the oldest wine regions in the county. Situated on a plateau and surrounded on three sides by mountain ranges, the Dão is comprised of sandy, well-drained soil and has a temperate climate, characterized by wet winters and long, warm summers. This terroir yields wines that are elegant, complex, and well-balanced. Today's offering is a great representation of the wines that are coming out of this historic region.
The 2016 Quinta do Vale Tinto is a blend of native varietals Tinta Roriz, Alfrocheiro, and Jaen from Serra da Estrela in the Dão. Both the nose and medium-to-full palate abound with brambly blackberries, black raspberries, and cherries. The abundant fruit is threaded with mineral accents, forest floor, pepper, and savory herbs. Vibrant acidity brings this crowd-pleaser to a long and satisfying finish.
