Not only is Raeburn Winery founder Derek Benham passionate about the noble grapes of Burgundy, but he also has reverence for the earth and believes that these are inextricably entwined regarding wine craftsmanship. He knows that the terroir and its synergy with the grapes are the driving forces behind the production of great wines and that his role is to guide rather than dominate the process. To this end, he takes a conservationist approach to winemaking, taking care of his vineyards sustainably with water-efficient, low-impact farming and letting the terroir do the talking in his finished wines. His practices are good for the earth and produce terrific wines that reflect their origins.
The 2021 Raeburn Pinot Noir is brilliant crimson in color and leads with pleasing aromas of baking spice and vanilla. The palate is marked with stunning fruit flavors of lush wild blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry with undertones of roasted hazelnut. The finish is graceful and sophisticated.
