PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
Located on the benchland on the far Eastern edge of Dry Creek Valley, East Bench vineyard is an ideal place to grow zinfandel. Although the site is fairly new to Ridge, it has a long viticultural history. The original vines were abandoned in the early 1900s; the vineyard blocks have been replanted one by one over the last thirty years. Ridge’s East Bench is currently produced from vines planted in 2000 and 2001.*

The soil is comprised of clay loam with ancient river rock. Iron-rich and reddish in color, deep and well-weathered, it is ideal for growing wine grapes, especially zinfandel. The soils are identical across the bench as are the climatic conditions, giving the vines the chance to demonstrate their distinctive character as they mature fully. This terroir brings forth a true Dry Creek Valley zinfandel that shows the characteristic red and black fruit profile and dusty spice that are the hallmarks of the appellation.*

The 2020 Ridge East Bench Zinfandel is one of the few mono-varietals made by Ridge and is crafted from organically-grown grapes. Aged in a combination of new and seasoned American oak barrels for 12 months, it offers "fresh black cherry, fig, and vanilla on the nose, with notes of mint. It is medium-to-full-bodied, with rich raspberry on the palate and well-coated tannins. It is beautifully balanced with a juicy finish. (winemaker notes)

The press on this wine is just starting to emerge; check it out!

94 Points, Blue Lifestyle:
“Smooth and deep, with tangy berry fruit, with notes of cinnamon and vanilla, nicely structured, long, layered and lovely, from one of the world’s greatest zinfandel regions.” (322)

92 points, OwenBargreen.com:
“This 100% varietal bottling came from an exceedingly small crop and was harvested the first week of September. The nose is very appealing with its blood orange zest and wild strawberry tones alongside shades of wintergreen. The palate is very soft and approachable with bright acidity and red raspberry, pomegranate seed, and red cherry flavors alongside this brilliant vein of tension. Just an infant now, this medium-bodied, well-structured zin will surely cellar well for another ten years or more. Drink 2022-2032”. (3/22)

92 points, Zinfandel Chronicles:
“Enticing nose of red and black fruits, plums, and cocoa. Medium body with tremendous acidity. Rich and savory. Strawberry, black raspberry, earth, and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Super zinfandel that is a perfect reflection of the Dry Creek Valley. Best over the next 3-5 years.” (3/22)
