PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Founded in 1972, Roberto has been 100% committed to producing one of the finest Brunello possible via a non-interventionalist approach, high-density plantings, and ultra-rigorous green harvesting during the growing season. He is extremely passionate and bent on making the best wines possible.  He only plants Sangiovese Grosso (the “Brunello” grape) and that’s it!  Monica Larner of the Wine Advocate had the following to say about the Roberto and his efforts recently: “San Filippo is home to some of the best boutique Brunello today… The quality of the product has made quantum leaps since I first tasted the wines more than a decade ago… Proprietor Roberto Giannelli farms on mostly clay soils and his wines proudly show the extra structure and intensity that is common in this eastern corner of the appellation”

However, what’s really made the estate soar has been its prime location within Montalcino.  Roberto’s Lucere site resides within Brunello’s “Grand Cru” Central Zone (home of the “original” Brunello estates and adjacent to Biondi Santi’s Il Greppo vineyard and the birthplace of the Brunello appellation!). Le Lucere has a perfect altitude, inclination, and southern exposure… It’s Brunello’s most prime real estate!  Most of the Brunellos from this hallowed zone are the most expensive of the appellation (Soldera, Biondi Santi, Salvioni, Cerbaiona), however, Roberto’s are great values (not sure how long that will last with the great ratings he’s been getting recently!).

PRODUCT REVIEWS:
98 points, James Suckling
"Lots of smoke, ash and dried-flower aromas to the ripe fruit and richness that follow through to a full body, intense and richly ripe tannins and a long, flavorful finish. A wine with lots of tannins and fruit to age for a long time. Try in 2021." (4/2/19)

97 points, Wine Spectator

"A lush, velvety texture signals this fruity red, featuring compelling cherry, strawberry and violet flavors. Lively and fresh, with dusty tannins melding with the vivid acidity and rich fruit on the lingering aftertaste. Very pure and alluring, this is enjoyable now with decanting. Drink now through 2038. 300 cases made, 150 cases imported." (6/15/19)

Only 150 cases of this beautiful wine were brought into the USA and we have 60 bottles only. Jump on this opportunity to own a bottle or three. Whether you drink it now or cellar it, it is sure to bring you lots of pleasure. Cheers!
