We are very excited to announce that legendary Montalcino proprietor & winemaker Roberto Giannelli will be in town - and he will be at Bin Ends Needham on Saturday June 4th pouring his wines!
Established in 1972, San Filippo is one of the 20 original producers of Brunello di Montalcino. After purchasing the 22 hectare estate in 1990, Roberto spent years renovating the buildings, cellar and vineyards, all the while developing an intimate knowledge of the property's terroir. Along with his oenologist Paolo Caciorgna, Roberto has made an unwavering commitment to manifesting the highest expression of sangiovese grosso in his cuvées. The San Filippo team has spent the better part of the last three decades honing their craft. Their efforts have propelled them to the upper echelons of winemaking. San Filippo's wines are sought after by wine aficionados and collectors all over the world; they have received hundreds of 95-100 point wine reviews, accolades, and awards from the wine press.
San Filippo's wines are known for being elegant and age-worthy, yet thoroughly approachable in their youth. Monica Lerner of the Wine Advocate is one of his most ardent fans in the press: “San Filippo is home to some of the best boutique Brunello today… The quality of the product has made quantum leaps since I first tasted the wines more than a decade ago… Proprietor Roberto Giannelli farms organically on mostly clay soils and his wines proudly show the extra structure and intensity that is common in this eastern corner of the appellation.”

2020 Rosso di Montalcino "Lo Scorno"
"The color is ruby red; to the nose the perfume is clean and intense. Reminiscent of cherries preserved in alcohol, enhanced by spicy notes. To the palate it offers a good body, full and balanced with silky tannins. Good persistence that harks back to the first olfactory notes."
