PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
Stags' Leap Winery, located on the Silverado Trail in the Napa Valley, was one of the first of its kind established in the region. It has a history that dates back to the late 19th century, yet it has managed to remain one of the most highly-regarded wineries in the region, even as the area has grown and become home to hundreds of estates jostling for the attention of wine aficionados the world over. Its iconic status can be attributed to its relentless pursuit of high-quality, expressive, bold wines that reflect the winery's fruit-forward style of craftsmanship; to this day it continues to garner numerous high ratings form the wine press and please the palates of legions of fans.

The 2016 Stags' Leap Petite Sirah is made primarily from vines planted in the deep, rocky soils of the winery's estate vineyards and supplemented by carefully selected fruit from vineyards in Calistoga, St. Helena, Oakville, Oak Knoll, and Coombsville. The resulting wine has an intense profile characterized by floral aromatics, dark, plush fruits, and spice notes. It is "deep and saturated with a core of blackberry, blueberry, and black plum, alongside more savory notes of cocoa powder, black pepper spice, and Old Bay seasoning. On the palate, the generous blackberry and peppery plum flavors continue but elements of fresher Bing cherry and creamy cassis notes also come through, as well as delicate anise seed, clove, and cedar spice notes from the oak aging. This wine is smooth and silky with velvety tannins and a generous lengthy finish, encouraging one to enjoy it now, but has the depth and complexity to age for many years to come." (winery tasting notes)

90 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
“The 2016 Petite Sirah is made up of 79% Petite Sirah, 8% mixed Rhône varieties, 7% Grenache, and 6% Syrah, aged for 12 months in 25% new American oak. Very deep purple-black in color, it opens with notes of freshly crushed black cherries and blackberries with touches of plum preserves, baking spices, and tar. The palate is medium to full-bodied, very firm and grainy with a lively line to lift the peppery black fruit to a long finish.” (10/29/18)
