PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Terrazze dell’Etna was founded in 2008 by Nino Bevilacqua, an engineer from Palermo. Working with legendary consulting winemaker Riccardo Cotarella, he planted vineyards at altitudes that range from 2000-3000 feet above sea level - some of the highest-lying vineyards in the world. The name of the winery was inspired by the traditional terracing method (terrazza means terrace in Italian) that the Bevilacqua family revived when it purchased the property.*

Although the family also grows some international grapes, native varietals nerello mascalese (the primary grape used in Etna wines) and nerello cappuccio are the stars of the show. Vineyard management is done by hand, and the estate uses integrated farming, including a variety of crops and livestock, to enhance biodiversity. The soils are volcanic in nature, produced over the centuries by Mt. Etna in the distance. The winemaking style is traditional, with minimal intervention in order to craft the purest expressions of fruit and terroir.* 

The 2014 Terrazze dell'Etna "Cratere" Sicilia IGT, a blend of 80% nerello mascalese and 20% petit verdot, was fermented and then aged for six months in stainless steel, followed by an additional 12 months in barrels. It is medium-to-full-bodied, with aromas and flavors of ripe cherries and raspberries. The palate is silky smooth, with subtle notes of Spring herbs, tobacco, mocha, volcanic stone, and balancing acidity that brings it to a long finish.
