Domaine le Clos des Lumières is a family operation founded in 1946 by the grandfather of the current winemaker: Gérald Serrano. Located in the Southern Rhône Valley in the commune of Fournès, it is the high quality of the Domaine's soils that give their wines their unique appeal. The Domaine owns 50 hectares planted with vines, some as old as 65 years. The rocky, calcareous soil retains the heat of the sun through the night, providing the vines with a stable temperature and allowing the vines to produce fully ripe grapes (importer notes)
The rouge (red), a blend of Grenache and Syrah, is full-bodied and juicy, with silky tannins. Aromas of red and black fruits, violets and baking spice lead to a palate redolent with blackcurrants and black cherries, with hints of white pepper and savory herbs and the merest hint of licorice on the finish.
The blanc (white), a blend of Grenache Blanc, Viognier, and Bourboulenc, is rich and round, with aromas and flavors of peaches and apricots undercut by stony minerality, and a long, complex finish.
The rosé, a blend of Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, is lip-smackingly delicious, with dominant flavors of cherries and strawberries accented by flinty wet stone, pink grapefruit, and a touch of spice.
