Rhône Valley legend Michel Chapoutier set his sights on expanding his holdings in the Southern Hemisphere, and in 2009 purchased Shays Flat Estate and Landsborough Valley Estate in Australia's Victorian Pyrenees. He recognized that the cool weather patterns and remarkable diversity of soil and exposures in this region would allow him to make distinctive wines from the varietals of his homeland utilizing his biodynamic farming philosophy. (importer notes)
Today's wine deftly balances Old World elegance and New World exuberance. An unoaked blend of Viognier and Marsanne, it is stainless steel fermented and spends 5 months aging on its lees. The resulting wine is lushly textured and redolent of stone and topical fruits, with terroir-driven characters and bright acidity that keeps it light on its feet.
90 points, Wine Enthusiast Magazine
"Free of restrictive appellation contrôlée regulations, Chapoutier's Australian team blends 85% Viognier and 15% Marsanne in this intense, concentrated white. Yellow plums and grilled pineapple ....offer plenty of enjoyment, finishing ripe, rich and long." (4/1/17)
89 points, Wine Spectator
"“Orange blossom and mango aromas leap out of the glass, with a fleshy core and a juicy finish, accented by hints of citrus zest. Viognier and Marsanne.” (10/15/16)
