The Triones have deep roots in Sonoma and have been farmers for three generations, cultivating grapes on 600 acres in the Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, and Sonoma Coast. In the early aughts, brothers Mark and Vic decided to take the leap into winemaking; they built a winery on their home ranch in Alexander Valley and hired Scot Covington as their winemaker. Scot made Trione 2005, 2006 and 2007 vintages in a custom crush facility; construction of the new winery was completed in time to receive the 2008 harvest. The Trione's leap of faith, as well as their choice of winemaker, have proven to be risks that were well-worth taking.
The grapes for today's wine were hand-harvested from the stellar 2018 vintage, which was characterized by moderate weather that allowed for full and balanced flavor development. The South African yeast strain, Alchemy II, which imparts fresh gooseberry and grassiness, was used for fermentation.
The 2018 Trione Sauvignon Blanc beguiles the senses with aromas and flavors of white peaches, nectarines, lime zest, and gooseberries. On the palate, subtle grassy notes and stony minerality are entwined with all that fruit, which is kept exuberant and lively by bright, refreshing acidity.
