PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEWS:
Vineyard 29 was established in 1989 by Teresa Norton and Tom Paine, whose retirement plans were upended when they realized their newly purchased property was in prime cabernet country. They built a winery and purchased 3 acres outside of the town of Saint Helena that would become their estate vineyard. The winery was purchased by Chuck and Anne McMinn in 2000, who expanded the operation with the acquisition of the Aida vineyard, located 2 miles north of the original property.

The McMinns also built relationships with well-respected growers in AVAs throughout Napa with the goal of crafting wines that expressed the breadth of terroirs and microclimates in the valley. Today's wine is one of the glorious fruits of this massive effort.

The 2018 Cru Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from vineyards in Saint Helena as well as other sites from throughout the Napa Valley. Both valley floor and mountain fruit make up the blend, which includes 6% merlot, 4% petite verdot, 3% cabernet franc, and 2% malbec. Aged for 18 months in half new and half seasoned French oak, it has a beautifully expressive nose of Bing cherries, coca, and grilled meat. The palate embodies the diversity of the Napa Valley, with firm tannins housing flavors of cassis and plums framed by accents of black peppercorns and tobacco leaf. It ends with a long, weighty finish that never loses its focus. (from winery notes)

94 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"Plums, Asian spices, tobacco, and lead pencil notes emerge from the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru, which hits the palate with medium-to-full-bodied richness, a beautifully polished, elegant texture, and outstanding length. This is another gorgeous 2018 displaying notable purity, balance, and length as well as richness. It can be drunk any time over the coming 15+ years." (1/27/21)

92 points, Vinous:
"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru is fabulous. A gorgeous, entry-level offering, the Cru Cabernet opens with bright, captivating aromatics. Medium in body, fresh and juicy, the 2018 is an absolute delight to taste today. Black cherry, mocha, licorice, and chocolate are all laced together in this hugely appealing Cabernet from Vineyard 29. Drink it over the next handful of years." (2/21)

90 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru offers up seductive notes of warm cassis, plum preserves, and blueberry compote with hints of chocolate mint and candied violets with a touch of tapenade. Medium-bodied, the palate is elegantly styled and refreshing, with plenty of crunchy black fruits and a grainy texture, finishing with an herbal lift." (11/5/20)
