Wapisa is located in San Javier, Rio Negro, Patagonia, 25 miles from the Atlantic. Its vineyard, “Finca Los Acantilados” boasts lime clay soils and little organic matter. The wide diurnal temperature variation is highlighted by cool maritime breezes that sweep over the vineyards at night. This terroir is ideal for the cultivation of cool-climate varietals like Pinot Noir.
The 2017 Wapisa Pinot Noir has aromas and flavors of strawberries and fresh raspberries layered with accents of rose petals and cherries. The palate is fresh and delicate, with pliant tannins and balancing acidity that brings it to a long finish.
94 points, James Suckling:
“A fresh and clean Pinot Noir with fresh strawberries and hints of flowers. Medium-bodied, crisp and vivid. Beautiful finish. Shows focus and finesse. First Pinot from here and shows potential. Drink or hold.” (3/27/19)
