The Rheingau is a small but significant appellation in Germany. While it accounts for only 3% of the country's total wine production, it brings forth world-renowned wines thanks to the cooling influences of the Rhine River to the west and the protection from cold winds by the Taunus mountain range to the north.
Allendorf is a family-owned estate with 75 hectares planted to vineyards. Established by Fritz and Lotte Allendorf, it is currently managed by second-generation family members Ulrich, Claudia, Christine, and Josef, who have carried on their parents' mission to produce region-specific wines that honor their roots and the distinctive terroir of the Rheingau.
The 2019 Allendorf Spätburgunder is bright and fruit-driven, with aromas of black raspberries and forest floor followed by a medium-weight palate of black raspberries and cherries with the merest hint of savory herbs and wet stone. Bright acidity and a kiss of peppery spice bring it to a long finish.
