PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Yarra Yering Vineyard was established in 1969 by Dr. Bailey Carrodus, a horticulturist and aspiring winemaker who was drawn to Victoria’s Yarra Valley because he believed that he could produce wines there that were reminiscent of those he enjoyed while traveling in Europe. After spending several years studying the terroir of the Yarra Valley, he settled on a site at the foot of the Warramate Hills. The gently sloping, north-facing hills and deep grey silty loam shot through with bands of gravel fulfilled all of his requirements: good drainage, all-day exposure to the warm sun, and enough elevation from the valley floor to avoid the spring frosts.*

Yarra Yering quickly gained an international reputation for quality and individuality and for the next 35 years, Dr. Carrodus made his wines to great critical and commercial success.*

Dr. Carrodus died in 2008 and the vineyard was subsequently sold to two businessmen, both passionate Yarra Yering fans. Along with winemaker Sarah Crowe, they have continued to operate this iconic vineyard with the same dedication to excellence.*

Aged in seasoned French oak for 18 months, today's wine, a blend of 80% cabernet sauvignon and 20% malbec, "consistently exhibits classic cabernet characters of cassis and dark berry fruits, along with a unique leafy herbaceousness. The malbec plays its part with inky robust plum and black cherry and ample tannins to provide beautifully balanced structure." 96 points, James Halliday Wine Companion
