PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Coteaux Bourguignons is a Burgundian appellation for fresh, youthful red, white, and rosé wines that covers a large territory, from Auxerre in the north to Beaujolais in the south. Red wines are made primarily from gamay and/or pinot noir, both of which offer plush fruit characters, silky tannins, and vibrant acidity.

The venerable House of Louis Jadot, looking to expand its portfolio of everyday affordable wines, planned to release its first vintage (2018) of "Aurum" just as the pandemic began. The ensuing lockdowns and supply chain issues made it impossible for them to ship the wine overseas, so nearly the entire vintage was sold in France. Supply chain and logistics issues continued to be an issue as the 2019 vintage of "Aurum" was prepared for release; the wine did not ship until many months after its intended arrival date. In the wine trade, these types of delays are a real issue as importers and distributors rely on the regular ebbs and flows of wines from various regions and styles to manage their own logistics and inventory. As market conditions continued to unfold, Louis Jadot decided to utilize much of the fruit for subsequent vintages of Aurum as a component of other wines that they currently produce.

Long story short, the 2019 Louis Jadot Aurum Pinot Noir was a wine without a home and at this point, the importer/distributor, having other priorities on which to focus, made the decision to move on from the wine. A sample was presented to us and upon tasting it, we moved quickly to work out a deal that would allow us to bring you this great everyday pinot at a fantastic price.

The 2019 "Aurum" is crafted from 100% pinot noir sourced primarily from vineyards in Beaujolais. Vinified and aged in stainless steel in order to put its fruit-and terroir-driven characters on center stage, it is ripe and plush, with dominant flavors of raspberries and cherries laced with accents of brambly earth, wet stone, and the merest hint of herbs.
