Aia Vecchia was established in 1996 by the Pelligrini family, who owns it to this day. The flagship wine of Aia Vecchia, Lagone, was created in 1998 by Tibor Gal, the famous consulting winemaker who started at Aia Vecchia after having worked at Ornellaia, the famous Super Tuscan estate.

Aia Vecchia was named after a little creek running between the vineyard and the villa. Made from international varieties in an area renowned for such "Super Tuscan" wines, Lagone is the wine that most represents the Aia Vecchia philosophy: the highest possible quality at a reasonable price. Today's wine is a blend of 60% merlot, 30% cabernet sauvignon, and 10% cabernet franc aged for twelve months in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels. It is full-bodied and redolent with flavors of brawny, brambly black fruits laced with savory herbs, pepper, and the merest hint of baking spice. The wine is well structured; the tannins and acidity are beautifully integrated with the fruit characters.

Give it 15 minutes in the decanter and your palate will be overjoyed.
