PRODUCT REVIEW:

"The 2017 Vintage Port is a blend of 35% Touriga Nacional, 47% Touriga Franca and various others, including a blend from old vines. It comes in with 113 grams of residual sugar. One of the more aromatic ports, it is laced with citrus and eucalyptus. Lush in texture and concentrated, it was actually showing well at the time of this tasting—not withstanding some power and pop. The more it aired out, though, the more power it showed. Even so, this remains a rather refined and suave Graham's. I'd call it subtly sexy. It does put on weight with some aeration, though, and there is that muscle underneath, so don't dive in too soon." -Mark Squires 7/11/19

 PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Graham's Port, an independent family business, are owners of some of the best vineyards in the Douro Valley and are pioneers of viticulture and winemaking. Today, five Symington cousins share responsibility for every aspect of the company and personally make the Graham’s wines. Graham's was actually one of the first Port companies to purchase their own Douro Valley vineyards in 1890. Graham's has a reputation as a producer of outstanding Vintage Port for well over a century, and have been involved with Port and the Douro for many generations, with ancestry dating back to the mid-17th century.

These wines are renowned for their remarkable richness, concentration and firm tannic structure: a combination which yields impressive longevity. Graham's Vintage Ports consistently attain the highest ratings in tastings and invariably attract very high bids at fine wine auctions.
Vintage Ports are only made in years of exceptionally high quality harvests, which on average occur two or three times in a decade, although in 2016 and 2017 Graham's declared 2 consecutive vintages, marking its first ‘back-to-back’ declaration of two consecutive years of outstanding quality since the 19th century. The weather in the vineyards is the principal determining factor: conditions must be ideal throughout the growing season, as well as during the subsequent harvest.
Graham's extraordinary quality is the result of the unique characteristics of the five vineyards that contribute to the Vintage Port.
