Bruce and Barbara Neyers established their winery in 1991, and since then have developed a reputation as one of California's most exciting and sought after properties. Planted in 1890 on an ancient sandbar, Evangelho Vineyard is one of California’s most precious viticultural treasures, both a preserved expression of this area’s history and a source of some of the state’s most soulful, distinctive wines. And just as astounding as the fact that it produces wines of such excellence is that it still exists — after a century of near-constant threats by man and nature.*

Farmed by Frank Evangelho, the Evangelho Vineyard sits at the crossroads of where the Sacramento and San Joaquin rivers intersect with the waters of the San Francisco Bay. The sandy, dry-farmed vineyard is home to gnarly vines that are head trained and on their original rootstock. Defying the odds, the Carignan in the vineyard has survived blights of disease, age, and encroaching developments, while still offering deep, luscious fruit.*

Aged for one year in French oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration, the 2021 Neyers Vineyards Carignan Evangelho Vineyard has aromas of red cherries, raspberries, and blackberries. The palate is bright, energetic, and medium- to full-bodied, with flavors of blackberries and cassis laced with subtle notes of wet stone, baking spice, and brambly earth. The finish is long and silky-smooth, with lingering notes of blackberries and balancing acidity.
