If you are a long time reader of these emails, you know I am a big fan of Super Tuscans - wines from Bolgheri in Tuscany crafted with classic French varietals. These stunning wines, borne from a need to compete on the world stage with the great wines of Bordeaux, very quickly captured the hearts and palates of wine lovers around the world. They display such a beautiful synergy between French grapes and Italian terroir you would think they have been working together for centuries. My excitement about today's feature, a gorgeous, 94-point Super Tuscan for a mere $20 per bottle, is off the chain! 

Michele Satta spent much of his youth on the island of Sardinia, and it was here that he developed a passion for the land. This, along with a budding interest in wine, led him to Tuscany, where he became an agronomist. He founded the estate bearing his name in the 1980s and started as a negociant, but over the years purchased enough land to craft wines exclusively from his own vineyards. In 1993 he began collaborating with the great Super Tuscan estate Ornellaia and realized that he could craft Super Tuscans on his own property that maintained a strong sense of place. The rest, as they say, is history!

The 2023 Michele Satta Bolgheri Rosso is a blend of 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot, and 10% Syrah aged for 12 months in a combination of cement tanks and seasoned oak barrels. It has aromas of plums, black cherries, violets, and herbs. The palate is medium to full-bodied and silky smooth, with flavors of black cherries and blackberries laced with notes of vanilla, cocoa, and brambly earth. Bright acidity and supple tannins provide structure and bring the wine to a long finish.
