Roberto Anselmi’s winery became a crown jewel of the Veneto, and he made this accomplishment by breaking all the rules. He believed that his vineyards, located in the highest part of the Soave DOC on volcanic and limestone soils, would yield the best wines if he were not constrained by the DOC's guidelines. In true maverick fashion, he said “Ciao” to the DOC and set out on his own.
Indeed, whatever he lost by giving up DOC status, he got back in spades by forging his own path. One sip of today’s wine and you will know he made the right decision!
The 2022 Roberto Anselmi Realda Cabernet Sauvignon is a monovarietal sourced from Anselmi’s Realda Vineyard. Aged for 18 months in French oak, it has aromas of fresh red and black berries laced with tobacco and leather. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with flavors of blackcurrants, cassis, and black raspberries, with hints of cedar, Mediterranean herbs, and wet stone that unfold layer by layer. Silky smooth with velvety tannins that bring it to a long finish, this wine is easy to love with or without food.
