Introduction:
The 2018 Château Les Ormes is a classic Saint-Julien red that emphasizes elegance, perfume, and balance over sheer power. Sourced from a small family estate, it offers approachable drinking without sacrificing terroir or structure.

Terroir:
From a 12-hectare property in the Saint-Julien appellation, planted on gravel soils typical of the Left Bank with excellent drainage and sun exposure. The vineyard is planted to approximately 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot. The 2018 vintage began with a wet spring but turned into a warm, dry summer and autumn, producing fully ripe grapes with freshness and balance.

Appearance:
Deep garnet red with a ruby core and subtle brick highlights. Moderate density with good clarity.

Nose:
Black cherry and cassis aromas rise first, followed by hints of cedar, licorice, graphite, and tobacco leaf. Toasted oak and bay leaf add complexity.

Palate:
Medium to full-bodied, with layers of black fruit—plum, cherry, and cassis—balanced by firm but polished tannins. Subtle oak brings notes of spice and toast, while the gravelly terroir shows through as mineral tension. Bright acidity keeps the palate lifted and balanced.

Finish:
Long, persistent finish with lingering dark fruit, cedar, and a savory herbal edge. Silky tannins coat the palate, leaving a refined impression.

Food Pairing Suggestions:

  • Meat dish: Roast lamb with rosemary and garlic or flank steak with a red wine reduction

  • Vegetarian option: Portobello mushroom Wellington or lentil stew with fresh herbs

  • Cheese pairing: Aged Comté or firm Manchego, both capable of standing up to the wine’s tannin and oak

Overall Impression:
The 2018 Château Les Ormes is a graceful Saint-Julien that delivers ripe fruit, polished tannins, and mineral character in a balanced package. Approachable now with decanting, but structured enough to develop further complexity over the next 8–12 years. A refined and well-priced introduction to the elegance of Left Bank Bordeaux.
