If you think that the window to acquire Brunellos from the great 2019 vintage has closed, you are in for a wonderful surprise! Our intrepid buyer has secured an allocation of a 95-point stunner. The best part? It is yours for $45 per bottle, a 40% savings!
2019 was an exceptional vintage in Tuscany's Montalcino appellation (98 points, Wine Spectator) that brought forth powerful yet elegant Brunellos. "Consistent weather, warm days, cool nights, and well-timed rain resulted in pure, fruit-filled Brunellos that combine elegance and power; the top wines rival the best 2016s." (Wine Spectator) You would be hard-pressed to come across a lackluster Brunello from 2019; the wines are nothing short of fabulous.
Sustainability is the guiding principle of San Felice’s philosophy. With 150 hectares under vine at an altitude of 1300 feet above sea level and a perfect combination of soils and micro-climates, the folks at San Felice, under the guidance of winemaker Leonardo Bellaccini, see themselves as stewards of the land who guide rather than dominate the processes of grape cultivation and winemaking.
Campogiovanni is San Felice's 23-hectare estate in Montalcino. Situated on a gentle south-western hillside, it is divided into different areas (with 14 hectares devoted to the production of Brunello), comprising three distinct soil types that bring out complementary characteristics in the finished wines. The calcareous (chalky) soil yields power, the clay elements contribute a softness in flavor, and the alluvial soil brings elegance. This is prime Montalcino terroir.
The 2019 San Felice Campogiovanni Brunello di Montalcino has aromas of ripe, wild berries, blackberry preserves, tobacco leaf, and tanned leather.
An expansive, generous palate displays a rich mouthfeel, developing into a lengthy finale marked by fruit liqueur. (winery notes) Check out the press!
95 points, Wine Enthusiast:
"Deeply savory and earthy on the nose, with damp soil, old leather, crushed wild herbs, and then black cherries that roll onto the rich, indulgent palate, where they meet figs, dark chocolate, wild mint, and the delicate licorice perfume of sambuca flower. Thick, looming tannins are lifted by acid through a long finish." (7/1/25) 93 points, Wine Spectator: "There's an exotic boysenberry note to the fruit in this red, along with flavors of raspberry and kirsch, shaded by eucalyptus and wild rosemary, plus a chalky mineral element. Yet this remains slightly austere, with dense, linear tannins leaving a grip on the finish. Best from 2027 through 2043. 3,500 cases made, 1,750 cases imported." (6/30/24)
93 points, James Suckling: "Aromas of blackberries, flint, and matchstick. Medium body with firm, silky tannins and a lightly chewy finish. Structured and polished. Juicy at the end. Drink after 2025. (9/12/23) Order the 2019 San Felice Campogiovanni Brunello di Montalcino between now and Wednesday, November 5th at 4 PM. Orders will be ready for pickup on Friday, November 7th, after 4 PM.
