Assobio was originally a cuvée made by Quinta dos Murcas, which has a history dating back to the 1770s. The estate has been part of the Esperão group since 2008. Dedicated to sustainable farming practices, the Esperão group celebrates native Portuguese varietals. The "Assobio" is a testament to the Douro's success in crafting bold, delicious table wines made with Portuguese grapes, most notably those used in the production of Port.
The 2017 Assobio Tinto is lushly textured and full-bodied, with aromas and flavors of blackberries, black raspberries, and black cherries. On the palate, the fruit characters are flanked by subtle notes of baking spices, wet stone, violets, and black pepper. The tannins are smooth and seamlessly integrated with the fruit and secondary flavors, yet the wine has retained the youthful exuberance of a younger vintage.
