Damilano is one of the oldest wineries in Barolo, dating back to 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno started cultivating grapes and producing wine from his vineyards. Giacomo Damilano, the founder’s son-in-law, took over the winery operation in 1935. He grew the business and improved the quality of the vinification system and the vineyards, turning the winery into a “jewel” of the Langhe area. The results of his hard work were passed down to his grandchildren Paolo, Mario, and Guido in 1997; to this day they work to maintain and improve quality in the vineyards. (importer notes)
A blend of fruit from five MGA sites (Brunate, Liste, Cerequio, Cannubi and Raviole), the 2021 Damilano Barolo Lecinquevigne has aromas and flavors of dried cherries, wild strawberries, dried roses, mint, and licorice, with subtle hints of tar and toasted tobacco leaf. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with a smooth texture, firm yet pliant tannins, and a long, cherry-tinged finish.

93 points, James Suckling:
"A fine-tuned, elegant Barolo with aromas of dried cherries, dried roses, licorice, and mint. Full-bodied, it shows smoothness, density, weight, and soft tannins despite the structure, with refreshing acidity and a long, vibrant finish full of savory flavors."
93 points, Wine Advocate:
"The Damilano 2021 Barolo Lecinquevigne offers nice intensity and standard Nebbiolo complexity with dark fruit, cassis, spice, and toasted tobacco leaf. Aged in large botte, the wine is open-knit in texture and immediate.
93 points, Wine Spectator:
"Laced with cherry, strawberry, rose, mineral, and white pepper flavors, this red is expressive despite being linear. Firms up on the finish, where lively acidity drives the fruit and savory elements."
