During these times of tariffs and supply chain disruptions, one would assume it is near impossible to find one of the world's most sought-after wines for early aughts pricing. While it is challenging, it is not impossible if you know where to look - and our intrepid buyer knows where to find these treasures! Southern Rhône fans, jump on this rare opportunity to score a few bottles of Châteauneuf-du-Pape from one of the region's premier producers at a ridiculously good price!

Domaine Paul Autard has a history in the Southern Rhône Valley that dates back to 1924. However, the modern era for Domaine Paul Autard began in 2005 when Jean Paul Autard took over managing the estate. Working with his daughter Pauline, he oversees 16 hectares in the southern Rhône, 12 of which are in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.*

Jean-Paul feels privileged to have inherited a domaine in which the plantations of different varieties are perfectly adapted to the soil types ranging from galets roulés, pebble and clay, to sandy-clay. He aims to get the most out of each variety by letting these perfect marriages be the guiding forces in the vinification process. To this end, he vinifies each plot separately and then blends judiciously, thus ensuring the preservation of each plot's terroir-driven characters.*

The 2021 Paul Autard Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre. Aged for 12 moths in oak barrels, it has aromas of ripe black cherries, cassis, and black raspberries entwined with hints of pepper, spicy oak, graphite, and herbal garrigue. The palate is rich and concentrated, with flavors of blackberries, cassis, and plum jam laced with accents of dark chocolate, leather, and Asian spice. Fine grained tannins bring balance without detracting from the wine's plush texture. The wine finishes long, with notes of spicy, dark fruits.

92 points, Jeb Dunnuck:
"The 2021 Châteauneuf du Pape is a blend of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre. It has a more modern bouquet of ripe black raspberry and cassis fruit supported by spicy oak, graphite, and pepper. These carry to a medium- to full-bodied, beautifully textured, concentrated 2021 with plenty of mid-palate depth, the fresher, vibrant style of the vintage, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's another impressive effort from this talented estate that I'd be happy to drink on release and any time over the following 10-15 years."
