Take this opportunity to own a piece of Napa Valley's illustrious wine history that will elevate any meal to soaring heights. Full-bodied, silky-smooth, and full of ripe fruits, this afternoon's offer is a feast for the senses - and at $36 per bottle, this Rutherford Cabernet is a no-brainer!
The Inglenook legacy dates back to 1879, when Gustave Niebaum created an estate he hoped would produce world-class wines. That dream was finally achieved by his grand-nephew, John Daniel, Jr., whose wines from the 1940s and ’50s are widely regarded to be some of the best wines ever made. Niebaum, Daniel, and Inglenook played an important role in defining the Napa Valley.
In 1975, Francis and Eleanor Coppola purchased the historical estate from Daniel’s widow; inspired by the quality of some of the older vintages in the cellar, they vowed to restore the estate to its former glory. Their success is embodied in today's sublime wine, named for the original owner of the estate, Coppola's maternal grandfather, and for the estate's inaugural vintage.
Located between the AVAs of St. Helena and Oakville, at the base of the Mayacamas Mountains, Rutherford brings forth some of the Napa Valley's richest cabernets. Vines are treated to abundant sunshine and warm temperatures, which allow the grapes to achieve full phenolic ripeness. Rutherford's proximity to San Pablo Bay gives the vines access to cooling fog, which moderates the heat and sunshine and prevents the grapes from becoming overripe. The fog allows the fruit to develop balancing acidity and aromatic complexity. The finished wines from Rutherford seamlessly straddle the line between opulence and elegance.
A monovarietal aged for 18 months in a combination of new (11%) and neutral French oak barrels, the 2018 Inglenook Niebaum-Pennino "1882" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon has enticing aromas of cocoa powder, black cherries, and ripe black plums. Immediately balanced and graceful on the palate, the wine shows ripe flavors of cassis and black cherries, with a deft touch of French oak on the finish. Full and well-textured, this vintage is particularly vibrant and fresh, with polished tannins and a long finish." *
