Sometimes, on "Easy Mondays", we must cast aside our plans to get paperwork done because we get an offer we cannot refuse! Today was one of those days; the wine gods smiled upon us with a 93-point wine from Opus at 40% savings!
Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Château Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Robert Mondavi of Napa Valley fame joined forces in 1979 to create Opus One Winery. The estate vineyards rise from the western part of Oakville, including 100 acres within the highly acclaimed To-Kalon Vineyard and 70 acres combined between the Ballestra and River parcels surrounding the winery.* Today's offer represents the first time specific blocks from each vineyard were sourced for this beautiful wine.
A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, cabernet franc, malbec, and petit verdot from the 2018 and 2019 vintages aged for 18 months in French oak, the NV Overture has the blackberry and cassis characters of cabernet sauvignon that meld seamlessly with the black cherry, red currant, violet and deep plum of merlot, cabernet franc, petit verdot, and malbec. Barrel aging weaves in the nuances of vanilla and toasty oak spices while enhancing the wine’s elegant texture and sensual mouthfeel. By blending several vintages, the spectrum of nuances is broadened and enhances the soft, supple mid-palate, which is the hallmark of Overture.**

93 points, Decanter:
"Dark forest berry notes on the nose with perfumed elements and notes of milk chocolate. Supple and agile, generous with textured, slightly grainy tannins that are so pleasant - expansive and round in the mouth. It's well-built and very approachable with blackcurrant and black cherry flavors on the palate. Concentrated, deep, and layered but still with elegance. Extremely characterful. A blend of the 2018 and 2019 vintages with 18 months aging in French oak barrels. 1% Petit Verdot completes the blend."
Order the NV Overture by Opus now until Monday, July 28th, at Noon. Orders will be ready for pickup on Thursday, July 31st, after Noon.
