Lorenzo and Eilleen De Monaco, an Italian and a Boston native, operated Italian bike tours from Massachusetts, but their love of Italy  - and wine - led them to to head back to Italy and start a winery. Agri Segretum was established in 2008; they are focused on crafting organic, Sangiovese-based wines that speak of their origins.

Aged for 9 months in French oak followed by another 6 months in stainless steel, the 2024 Agri Segretum 'Freghino', a blend of Sangiovese, Colorino, and Malvasia Nera, has aromas of cherries, plums, and raspberries. The palate is light- to medium-bodied, with flavors of cherries and raspberries laced with notes of brambly earth and Mediterranean herbs. Tannins are modest and supple, and acidity gives it brightness across the mid-palate. The finish is clean and refreshing. Red fruit lingers, with soft herbal echoes and a mineral undercurrent that provides a subtle grip.
