PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
The Povero family has roots in Asti dating back to 1837, but it was the man lovingly remembered as "Grandfather Tumlin" who first planted vineyards there in the 1940s. Over the years, he, along with his children, purchased land in the Roero, Langhe, and Monferrato appellations. Today, under the guidance of 4th generation caretaker Alessio Povero, the estate has 50 hectares under vine that bask in the northern Italian sun and bring forth lush, terroir-driven wines.

Fermented and aged in stainless steel in order to showcase the wine's ripe fruit characters, the 2021 Cantine Povero "Contrada Maestra" Barbera d'Asti is silky-smooth and soft of tannin, with brambly red fruit aromas and flavors of black cherries, raspberries, and blackberries, with accents of cocoa and dried herbs. The wine is infused with vibrant acidity that lends structure and keeps it light on its feet.
