Introduction:
The 2021 Castello La Leccia Chianti Classico Riserva is an expressive Riserva from an organic estate in Castellina. It blends traditional Sangiovese character with elevated depth and refined structure.

Terroir:
Vineyards lie on the hills of Castellina in Chianti, with calcareous clay and galestro soils. The region’s warm sun and cooling nights support phenolic ripeness while preserving acidity. Organic viticulture practices at La Leccia further aim to respect site expression.

Appearance:
Bright ruby red with medium to deep intensity. Clear with a luminous edge.

Nose:
Aroma of black cherry, sour cherry, and red plum, followed by notes of tobacco leaf, eucalyptus, and underbrush. Subtle hints of vanilla, cedar, and dried herbs add complexity.

Palate:
Medium-full bodied. Ripe red and dark cherries lead, bolstered by firm yet polished tannins. Earthy and balsamic edges appear mid-palate, with spice and leather layering in. Acidity is lively and gives lift through the structure.

Finish:
Long and persistent. Fruit lingers with dark cherry and plum echoing, while savory herbs, tobacco, and gentle minerality round out the close.

Press:
92 points, Vinous:
"The 2021 Chianti Classico Riserva is a bold, juicy wine. Succulent dark cherry, plum, new leather, licorice, and dark spice are front and center. This approachable, tasty Riserva offers plenty of charm. Even though it was bottled just two months before this tasting, the Riserva is quite expressive. The 2021 spent 10 months in cask followed by a year in cement. This is the finest wine I have tasted from La Leccia."

Overall Impression:
The 2021 La Leccia Riserva delivers Chianti Classico tradition with refinement—ripe cherry fruit, herbal complexity, and firm structure all balanced with freshness. It’s a robust wine now, but built for 5–10 years of additional cellaring.
