Cline Cellars is a family-owned winery with humble beginnings in Oakley, Contra Costa County. Over the years, as the business has grown, the Clines acquired vineyards throughout Northern California and moved their winery from Oakley to Sonoma. Through all this transition, the family has held onto its holdings in Contra Costa County, where gnarly, decades-old mourvèdre vines flourish in the deep, sandy soils, yielding fruit that is ultra-ripe and concentrated.
Aged for 12 months in American Oak, the 2023 Cline Ancient Vines Mourvèdre is deep purple-red, with aromas of Santa Rosa plums, cranberries, cedar, and vanilla. The palate is medium- to full-bodied and silky smooth, with flavors of pomegranates, cranberries, and fresh plums laced with notes of toasty oak. Bright acidity makes the wine dance on the tongue; the finish is long and satisfying.*

"The Ancient Vine series is a unique selection of ancient vineyard sources in Contra Costa County, which is well-known for heritage varietals. The site is entirely dry-farmed and organic. One of my favorite expressions to experience is mourvèdre; this one is deep, with savory aromas of mulberry, huckleberry, clove, dried florals, and toasted oak on the nose. The palate is fresh, with juicy raspberry, pomegranate, grilled tangerine, white pepper, star anise, and supple tannins on the finish."
