PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Husch Vineyards is a small, family owned and operated winery and is the oldest winery in the Anderson Valley appellation.
The 2020 vintage marked 50 years of family farming by the Oswald family now in their 3rd generation of Husch ownership and operations. Located in Mendocino County (Northern California) just 2 1/2 hours north of San Francisco. Under the direction of 3rd generation family members Husch produces 22 different wines , of which six are distributed nationally.
Historically Gewurztraminer, along with Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, have been the winery's foundation in the early years, and the grape continues to thrive in the unique soils and cool climate of the Anderson Valley appellation.
The original planting of these old vine gewurztraminer parcels were part of the original planting at Husch in 1968. The production is quite small, with 1929 cases produced in total.

Winemaking: A careful timing of harvest so as to find the ideal balance between achieving a ripe aroma profile and maintaining acidity– a goal that dates back centuries in the Alsace region. In 2020 the grapes were hand-harvested over several different nights to achieve this goal. Husch often chooses to pick in the dark of the night so the grapes are cold and ideal for winemaking. The crush and press of the fruit begins at daybreak and then begins a long, cool fermentation designed to preserve the aromatic character of Gewurztraminer.
