About the founding of Dancing Crow Vineyards: "One cool, Spring day in the shadow of Mt. Konocti, the Cartlidge-Forni clan came to lay out their plans for their new vineyard using straws to mark where the vines would be planted. While feasting during their midday lunch they saw a murder of crows dancing around the straws, which made them laugh. Yet, when they looked again, the crows and the straws were gone. The family learned two things that day: be wary of dancing crows, and what to name their vineyard"
The fruit for this Rosé was hand picked at 21° brix and the whole cluster is pressed.
This wine is a blend of 37% Mourvèdre and 20% Grenache from the High Valley
sub-AVA, along with, 28% Syrah and 15% Dancing Crow Sauvignon Blanc from the Big Valley sub-AVA.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, and was particularly slow this year, possibly due to the drought,
which also contributed to a high level of color concentration in the reds. In the 2022 vintage, it was a challenge to keep the blend the lighter pink color that TeamDancingCrow loves, and in the end this Rosé vintage is slightly darker than the ’20 vintage, it but still retains its classic copper/orange color because of the grape varieties used.
During summer months, the mountain climate of Lake County sees hot daytime temperatures; yet, the vines are able to recover from the heat of the day and respire at night due to cool coastal breezes, which are pulled across the Mayacamas mountain range in the evening by the vast size of Clear Lake.
