PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
Murrieta’s Well is one of California’s original wine estates and has been growing grapes since the 1800s. Its vineyard was started with cuttings from the famed Château d’Yquem and Château Margaux vineyards in France; today it continues to produce the highest quality fruit. Grape varieties are planted according to the various microclimates on the property. This creates the winemaking palette for blending exceptional wines that truly showcase the unique characteristics of the estate’s terroir. (winery notes)

Today's wine is sourced from the estate's Louis Mel Vineyard, from vines that are descendants of the original cuttings planted by Mel in the late 1800s. (Mel was one of the original winemakers in the Livermore Valley who emigrated from France in the 1970s.) Fermented and aged in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak, followed by lees-aging in neutral oak for four months, it offers aromas and flavors of passion fruit, lime, apple, and lychee fruit. The palate is rich and full, with accents of minerals and vanilla spice that complement the fruit characters beautifully. Bright acidity brings all this abundance into pitch-perfect balance.
