PRODUCT OVERVIEW/REVIEW:
"Farmer Fizz" or "Grower Champagne" are terms that some wine industry professionals affectionately dubbed Champagnes that are produced by the estates that actually cultivated and fermented the grapes. While this practice may seem commonplace, in Champagne only about 5% of bubbles are made this way; the vast majority are crafted with grapes sourced from other vineyards. What the French call "Récoltant Manipulant" Champagnes are very special because they reflect the distinct terroir as well as the particular winemaking style of the estate.
The Champagne François Secondé estate is located in the village of Sillery, which is situated among the Crus that produce the most sought-after Champagnes in the world. The estate, named after its proprietor, consists of a mere 5 hectares of vineyards planted to pinot noir (2/3) and chardonnay (1/3); the vines are 40 years old on average and are farmed sustainably in order to preserve the land and the quality of fruit. (from importer notes)
The François Secondé Champagne Grand Cru NV Brut has a golden hue with a persistent mousse. Mineral and floral on the nose, it has a rich yet balanced palate of exotic, tropical fruits, Viennese pastries, lightly toasted brioche, and a hint of ginger, with vibrant acidity that brings it to a long finish.
