If you go just outside of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, east of Beaucastel's CdP vineyards across the A7 Motorway, you will come upon their 30 hectares of Coudoulet that have brought forth this glorious wine. While this land is officially in the appellation of Côtes du Rhone, its terroir is virtually identical to that of its more prestigious neighbor and produces magnificent wine that has earned the nickname "Baby Beaucastel." Short story long, you get all the quality without the enormous price tag. What's not to love, ai-je raison?
Today's wine is a blend of 40% grenache, 30% mourvèdre, 20% syrah, and 10% cinsault fermented in cement tanks and aged in oak foudres for 6 months before bottling. Elegant and subtle, its nose reveals seductive aromas of fresh red berries. All in freshness and balance, the palate shows beautiful red fruit along with a delicate tannic structure perfectly integrated. The finish continues with the same beautiful balance." (winery notes)

92 points, Robert Parker:
"A terrific vintage for this wine...From a vineyard just outside the boundaries of the appellation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it's a remarkably consistent wine and always a solid value. Scents of sunbaked stones, black cherries and licorice appear on the nose, joined by hints of purple raspberries and dark chocolate, while the medium to full-bodied palate is lush and velvety, finishing long and complex." 92 points, James Suckling:
"Very attractive red cherry fruit fills out the medium-bodied palate where the fine tannins underline this very well. Impressive length with plenty of licorice and a touch of candied citrus at the long, crisp, and emphatically dry finish. A cuvée based on grenache and mourvèdre. From organically grown grapes. Drink from release." (6/4/23)
