Château de Beaucastel is the Grande Dame of estates in the Southern Rhône Valley. Its Châteauneuf-du-Pape has long been regarded as one of the greatest wines in France.
It is notorious for its elegance, balance, and aging potential. Beaucastel has an exceptional
terroir, comprised of 110 hectares, at the Northern limit of Châteauneuf du Pape, exposed to the Mistral wind.*

The terroir is archetypal of the best terroirs in Châteauneuf: rolled pebbles on the surface, with sand, clay, and limestone underneath. The vines are old and have been organically grown for 50 years,
which has allowed the roots to grow exceptionally deep.*

Beaucastel grows all thirteen grape varieties authorized by the appellation, and they all contribute to today's sensational offer. A blend of 30% grenache, 30% mourvèdre, 15% syrah, 10% counoise, and 5% cinsault, with the remaining 10% vaccarèse, terret noir, muscardin, clairette, picpoul, picardan, bourboulenc, and roussanne, it is aged in a combination of cement and foudres.

96 points, Decanter:
"A deep, quite herbal expression, with licorice and crushed blueberries to the cassis fruit. Full-bodied, powerfully fruited, dense and deep. Really mouthcoating, intense fruit. The tannins are ripe, fine, and plentiful, all saturated in blackberry juice on a long finish. Certainly one of the more successful Châteauneufs this year. Will age well." (9/3/22)

95 points, Vinous:
"Coming in at 14% alcohol, the 2021 Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a blend of 30% grenache, 30% mourvèdre...and other permitted varieties. The result is magnificent, wafting from the glass with fragrant aromas of juicy red fruits mingling with hints of black cherry, mint, garrigue and a pinch of white pepper. Full-bodied and layered, ever-so-velvety tannins wrap this elegant-to-the-core polished red, before concluding with a bright finish." (4/23)

94 points, Robert Parker:
"The 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape ratchets up the intensity from the Coudelet, adding more pronounced Mourvèdre-derived notes of truffle and tree bark to go with ripe black cherries and plums, crushed stone, and hints of dark chocolate. Full-bodied in the mouth, with ample concentration and richness, this gently tannic wine finishes long and velvety, with echoes of licorice and dark fruit." (10/12/23)
