PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Located in the northeastern foothills of the Pyrenees Mountains not far from the Spanish border, Côtes Catalanes is beautifully suited to grape cultivation. Its hot, dry climate, well-drained rocky soils, excellent hillside sun exposure, and cooling mountain and ocean breezes all create the perfect environment for producing grapes with highly concentrated fruit and balancing acidity.
Proprietors and winemakers Marjorie and Stéphane Gallet both grew up in the French countryside, and wine was an integral part of every meal. After meeting at the school of agronomy in Montpellier, they spent their free time exploring the vineyards of Languedoc-Roussillon. They were particularly taken with the Côtes Catalan and its terroir, which consists of black schist and white quartz. Determined to make wine here, they both spent several years learning the craft at other wineries.

Marjorie established Roc des Anges in 2001 with 10 hectares of vineyards, and Stéphane joined her a few years later. Today, they have over 25 hectares of vines spread across 43 individual parcels. Every grape cluster is harvested by hand at the coolest times of the day in order to preserve all the freshness and finesse that the fruit has to offer.

Both Marjorie and Stéphane believe that their terroir is the driving force behind their wines and that they are merely stewards of the magical process of transforming fruit into wines that are unique to the appellation. They work the land from a terroir-driven perspective, respecting its nature and seeking its most sincere expression.

Today's wine, a blend of grenache and syrah, was fermented and aged in stainless steel in order to preserve its purity of fruit and terroir-driven characters. It is medium-to-full-bodied and silky smooth, with aromas and flavors of ripe cassis and black raspberries flanked by baking spice, white pepper, and stony minerality. Bright acidity keeps this rich wine nimble enough on its feet so that you can enjoy it any time of year.
