The MacDonnell family, owners of Round Pond Estate, got their start making wine for family and friends from grapes grown on their property. "Kith & Kin" was borne of this tradition.
A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, & 1% Malbec aged for 10 months in French oak barrels (40% new), the 2018 Kith & Kin Cabernet has "vibrant aromatics of ripe cherry, black plum, cedar, and fine leather that all leap from the glass. The supple and seductive entry is ripe with blackberry jam and soft mocha tones, leading this balanced wine through the mid-palate with notes of vanilla, violet florals, and a touch of white pepper. The finish is smooth, with approachable, velvety tannins that softly linger and make this wine the consummate crowd-pleaser." (winery tasting notes)
James Suckling: Rated 91 Points
"A rather rich, high-toned red with lots of jammy character and lots of wood. Full, rich, and layered. Flavorful finish... Drinkable now, but better in 2022."
Wine Spectator: Rated 90 Points
“This red delivers vivid plum and blackberry fruit, with polished edges and light violet and anise hints in the background. Remains unencumbered by toast notes, so the fruit sails on nicely.”
