PRODUCT OVERVIEW:
Siciliy's status as a major wine destination is largely due to the efforts of the Tasca family. Long before grapes became a significant agricultural product on the island, the Tascas saw vast potential in this sun-drenched locale. Settling in the verdant center of the island in the ancient county of Sclafani, they established Tenuta Regaliali in 1830 and planted their first vines.
With each new generation taking over management of the estate, Tenuta Regaliali has continued to grow and flourish. Respect for the terroir and tradition have been seamlessly entwined with innovation. Today, the estate remains in the care of the Tasca family, who oversees 600 hectares of vines and produces a stunning portfolio that includes wines made from noble as well as indigenous varietals. The 2018 Tenuta Regaliali "Lamùri" Nero d'Avola is a sublime expression of this unique Sicilian grape that reflects the land from which it originates.
Lamùri is the Sicilian word for love, and today's wine represents the Tasca family's affection for the native nero d'avola grape. Today's wine is a monovarietal sourced from four vineyards on the Regaliali estate, each one approximately 1800 feet above sea level with soil made of loamy clay. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barrels for 12 months, it "expresses the varietal's signature aromas and flavors of plum and cherry with sultry accents of sweet spice and thyme. An imminently drinkable wine, it reveals a soft tannin structure, thanks to a judicious oak selection." (winery tasting notes)
