Founded in 1883, Wente is the longest continuously-operated family-owned winery in the country, owned and managed by the fourth and fifth generations of the Wente family. The Wentes own estate vineyards throughout California. With the most profound respect for the knowledge passed down from previous generations, the current caretakers of the Wente family vineyards continue their vision for wine quality and integrity through passion, dedication, and pursuit of excellence. (from winery notes)
The 2022 Wente Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from and named for Wente's Southern Hills Vineyards, located along the southern hills of the Central Coast. The area, with its abundant sunshine, cooling breezes, and well-drained, rocky soils, is exceptionally well-suited to the production of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. This full bodied, silky wine has aromas and flavors of blackberries, cassis, and black cherries laced with subtle notes of cocoa, cedar, and baking spices. The long finish has echoes of red and black berries with a touch of spice.

90 points, James Suckling:
"A nicely focused, dry, and well-balanced red that brings a sense of freshness and drive along with moderate black fruits and savory flavors. Blueberries, black cherries, hints of bay leaves and graphite give good complexity for such an affordable wine."
90 points, The Tasting Panel:
"Tart cranberries, red tea, and clove exude an inner brightness. An herb garden seasons vivacious red fruit as it saturates the palate, adding zing to the finish."
