Luigi and Fiorina Baudana's small winery in the Barolo region's commune of Serralunga d'Alba has been a well-kept secret among Piedmont wine lovers for a long time. A true artisanal operation with only 2.6 organically-farmed hectares under vine, it is the source of some of the purest, most terroir-driven and expressive wines in the region. 

The Baudanas lavished much attention on their fruit over the 30+ years the winery was under their care, from bud break to fermentation to bottling, but they were getting older and had no heirs to take over the reins. With a strong commitment to upholding Piedmont tradition and a desire to preserve their legacy, they sought after like-minded winemakers to take over. Enter their good friends the Vairas, proprietors of the G.D. Vajra winery in Piedmont. They purchased the Baudanas winery in 2009, and from the first vintage that was released under their care it was evident that the Baudanas made the right decision. 

Dragon is a unique white blend from the Langhe. Originally produced by Luigi Baudana during the 1980s with Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc, it has evolved to embrace Nascetta, the most exciting white heirloom varietal of the Langhe, and a tiny amount of Riesling. While the Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Riesling are sourced from Serralunga d’Alba, the Nascetta hails from the Comune of Novello, the varietal's original home.*

Aged in stainless-steel for 6 months (without malolactic fermentation) before bottling, the 2024 "Dragon" has aromas of kiwis, citrus fruits, and white peaches, with accents of elderflower and flinty minerality. The juicy palate abounds with flavors of lime zest, red apples, pears, and candied orange peel energized by vibrant, almost electric acidity. The stainless steel aging preserves every layer of freshness, and the finish carries a striking saline, mineral quality that lingers far beyond the fruit. This wine is mouthwateringly delicious from beginning to end.
